SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF GUANGDONG NORTEL

On June 3rd, Guangdong Nortel has opened a sophisticated new lab in Guangzhou to strengthen its R&D capabilities in Guangzhou and support the development of products for customers in Asia and global markets.

Located in the Information Port of Tianhe Software Park in Keyun Road, Guangzhou, Guangzhou R&D new lab was officially opened by Ms. Kalli Lefevre, Vice President of Research and Development of Nortel Asia and Greater China, in the presence of senior government of Guangzhou Tianhe District, Canadian Consulate in Guangzhou, Administration Committee of Tianhe Software Park and partners of Nortel. In the global research and development system of Nortel, the China lab, which consists of Beijing and Guangzhou campuses has already become the second largest full-service R&D site just after the R&D headquarter in Ottawa. These two comprehensive research and development sites will have critical masses of R&D expertise spanning all of Nortel’s identified skill sets. Currently, Guangdong Nortel R&D Center has over 1300 researchers and engineers who focus on research and development of applications of coverage of wireless networks, next generation networks and multi-media services, and on how to improve supports for operators and application service developers through a unified communication platform, dedicated to the making of a unified and efficient global research and development center network of Nortel.

General Manager of Guangdong Nortel, Henry So said: “This new lab marks another milestone for Nortel in China. It signals a significant investment in the strong R&D presence we have developed in China over years. It also demonstrates our continuing commitment to the China market. We believe that Guangdong Nortel will help government, operators, and customers in promoting social information technology progress, exploring business development and creating greater economic benefits with its advanced technology and sound competitive advantages.”

The new lab of the R&D Center is equipped with Nortel’s latest data and voice technology which brings great convenience and efficiency to employees’ work and lives. Now, every employee can communicate online whenever and wherever via a variety of means including email, fax, voice message, telephone and multi-media communication. WLAN and wireless network cover the entire park. Both the employees and visitors can securely connect to networks to enjoy the convenient network resources via laptop, mobile phone, PDA, Bluetooth and other equipment in the office area, research and development center, lobby, reception area, conference room and cafeteria etc.

Looking back at the path of over a decade, Guangdong Nortel has always actively been involved with the construction and development of China’s telecommunication infrastructure, providing high quality services and high-end telecommunication technology products to domestic and overseas clients and making excellent achievements. Currently, Guangdong Nortel is taking advantage of its own “low coast and high quality” competitiveness and technical team with core research and development competence of telecommunication, continuously developing and strengthening itself in the world telecommunication sector.

Today, at this time of opening of the new lab of the R&D Center, Guangdong Nortel is holding this grand celebration, with leaders from all levels invited to gather together here to witness the development of the Guangdong Nortel R&D Center, and to depict together a better and more glorious tomorrow.
