In recent years, the entire telecommunications industry has entered an era of merger and reconstruction. Uncertainties of the market forced Nortel Networks to start a business transformation and sell its UMTS access business, so that we can focus on the next generation of telecommunication, i.e. 4G. With continuous growth of new services and demands for 4G technology development, Guangdong Nortel invested $2 million in 2006 to renovate the 1st and 2nd floors of its main office building in Shunde and set up a Shunde Lab. At present, Shunde Lab has a research and development area of 3000 square meters and scores of R&D persons who are responsible for system test of Nortel Wireless Mesh and WiMax. To accommodate business growth, improve work environment for employees and reflect care from management to employees, the company invested RMB 7.76 million to refit the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors of its main office building (totally 2680 square meters) and deployed related systems. In this way, the company provides a comfortable and efficient work environment for employees.

The modern, open and loose office environment is in line with established style of Nortel Networks with comfortable and personalized design details. Generally speaking, the design is based on traditional style of Nortel Networks. Design of the entire building reflects the nature of Nortel as a high-tech company, including the murals in elevator room, and word art of corporate culture elements on each floor, open inner halls, color glazed walls, pillar wrapped by colored spray painted steel plate and semicircular meeting room on 5th floor, etc. For specific facilities and material, we considered comfort and personalization carefully.
