Managing director Henry So

I am deeply honored to take the position of Managing Director of Guangdong Nortel (GDNT). Although it was only a few weeks, I have benefited a lot from what I had experienced in this company and could not help admiring the talents of our employees that I am lucky to work with. Like all other leading companies, through the past 13-year efforts of all our employees and the management team, GDNT has become Nortel’s best system house all over the world. As an important part of Nortel R&D system, the Nortel’s China Lab, which consists of Guangdong Nortel R&D Center and Nortel’s Beijing Campus, has become Nortel’s second largest full-service R&D site in the world (second only to Ottawa R&D location). Besides, our workforce and management team are outstanding and exceptional. Particularly when facing the recent earthquake calamity in Sichuan, the entire company united together to help the people in the quake-stricken areas and made prompt efforts to ensure the smooth operation of the telecommunications system there, which really moved me a lot and made me more confirmed in my views.

During the past 22 years since I joined Nortel in 1986, I had been working at various management positions in Operations and Sales division, and later served as the Vice President of Operations for Asia-Pacific region. Currently as Vice President of Procurement and Manufacturing for Asia, I am now reporting directly to Don McKenna.

Our company has all the resources needed to achieve success. And my job is to create an environment to tap and make full use of these resources. Only with clear-defined objectives, specific development plans and more diligent work, can we give full play to our wisdom and creativity and add value to our shareholders and employees. At this point, I am working closely with my senior management team to define and review our goals and plans to accelerate the growth of our company. At the same time, I also encourage each one of you to work with your managers to set your working objectives and make personal development plans. Later, Jessie and I will review the relevant goals as we have planned to push on with our work.

To make GDNT one of the best telecommunications equipment manufacturers in China, and also Nortel’s best system house, we have set the following goals for the manufacturing center: Delivery commitment, Cost effectiveness, excellent quality control, Lean manufacturing to satisfy our customer's needs. Guangzhou R&D Center will shift its focus from the previous basic R&D center to a technical support center, namely, to develop the R&D capability of software decryption. With these advantages, and our flexible delivery services and the best R&D technical support, GDNT can demonstrate its capabilities to Nortel.
